The team
Origins
Some time in 2021 Lou was visiting the farm and probably not for the first time was talking up the virtues of sorghum and sorghum syrup. With 100 acres and local crop farmers to help it wasn't too hard to fit the ground and plant a few acres of sweet sorghum. It grew! And for the next two seasons the team at Empire Syrups meandered our way through developing a process that would yield a unique syrup with a bit more nuanced taste. We are part of a community of syrups makers each with a history and a passion. Empire Syrups is honored to be part of this community and to bring to you, our customers, a unique and tasty syrup.
Carl
Carl took the title of Managing Partner since it sounded useful but a bit nebulous in name or function. It also gave him the opportunity to use his land and see something in a bottle at the end of the day (well season)
Lou
Lou's title is chief sorghum evangelist which is a good title to match his passion and dedication to moving the sorghum syrup project forward.
Mike
Mike is head of field operations. A talented mechanic but also able to drive a tractor straight and true.
Maeve
Maeve is director of Agronomy. She tends to the soil and its happiness.
